About the Speaker 

Mr. Chew Sang Hai is the new President of Sabah Real Estate and Developers Association (SHAREDA)  for the term 2017-2019 and Chairman of Sub-Committee for Policies, Regulations & Economic Affairs and Infrastructure & Utilities. A Chartered  Builder by profession, he is also the corporate member of Chartered Institute of Building (U.K).

Currently he is the Executive Director and Shareholder of Grand Merdeka Development Sdn Bhd, the developer for Grand Merdeka in Menggatal, Kota Kinabalu which is an integrated commercial mixed development with GDV of RM1.2 billion. Also, Mr. Chew is responsible for completing a total GDV of RM550 million in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah for the past 23 years in different types of properties such as luxury high rise condominiums, high rise office towers, commercial complexes including retail and industrial centers. 


Summary of the Talk

The talk will present the factors contributing to the negative growth for the year 2016. The slow and declining growth of the property development is mainly affected by few main factors like GST, weakening of Ringgit, plummeting price of commodity and the politicalizing of our country domestic affairs. The above factors have caused many developers to put on hold their new project launches. However, market is expected to recover by the end of year 2017 and the industry would bounce back when we draw closer to the end of the year with the condition of our Ringgit is strengthen and the external factors would subside.
